The 5th Assises of Decentralised Cooperation for Development will take place in Brussels on 10 and 11 July 2017 at the European Committee of the Regions (Rue Belliard 99-101, 1040 Bruxelles, Belgium). The LADDER project will take part in the two-day programme and will officially be represented by its Secretary General of ALDA, Ms Antonella Valmorbida & the Project Manager, Ms. Sofia Caiolo.

More than 600 participants, local and regional authorities from the EU, Africa, Caribbean, Pacific and Latin America will come together to discuss common challenges and build sustainable partnerships. Starting from the presentation of the political context of development cooperation, the 5th edition of the Assises of Decentralised Cooperation will examine in depth new scenarios, latest developments, future challenges and opportunities during two plenary sessions featuring debates with senior representatives of the EU institutions, five roundtables on policy-making and six project-oriented workshops.
On Monday 10th, ALDA will take part to one of the round tables of the afternoon (RT – 4). “Decentralized cooperation & territorial development: complementing one another?”. This is the central question of the round table co-organized together with UNDP, CIEDEL, CFSI and Basque Country/CPMR. The round table will address the dimensions above by identifying opportunities and challenges deriving from analytical research as well as fact-based experiences from case studies coming from different regions of the world.
On Tuesday 11st, representatives of the LADDER project will join the workshop (WS – F) about education for development “LAs becoming drivers for change through development education: from the challenge to the opportunity”, co-organized together with Diputación de Valladolid, Universidad de Valladolid, Climate Alliance, Junta de Castilla y León and City of Kutaisi. The workshop aims at addressing the situation of development education in the enlarged Europe and discussing with the audience on the challenges and opportunities arising from current context, sharing examples of best practices and lessons learnt. Within the framework of the LADDER Project, ALDA will present the research implemented during the project about the level of awareness of LAs and CSOs concerning DEAR and SDGs.
The 5th Assises of Decentralised Cooperation is organized by European Commission and the Committee of the Regions. To participate registration is required by filling the online application form.
