The Centre of Expertise for Local Government Reform of the Council of Europe opened the final event of LADDER, hosted by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, on 21-23 November. The Head of the Centre, Mrs. Alina Tatarenko, is also statutory member of the Governing Board of ALDA, appointed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
“The Centre of Expertise develops skills and standards for local governments, in particular with a set of tools for public officials and for civil servants who need to build on their competences to deliver better services to communities. In this, we are very close to ALDA in terms of cooperation and synergies. The programme LADDER is certainly also fitting in this perspective of good governance. The 12 standards of good governance promoted by the Centre of Expertise include significantly the importance of the dialogue and co-decision with civil society and citizens at the local level. The cities which apply this model in a constructive way could be among those awarded of the stars of excellence of the Centre of Expertise”, said Mrs. Tatarenko in her opening speech of the conference.
The cooperation between the Centre of Expertise of the Council of Europe and ALDA is concrete through synergic approach for projects and activities providing local communities with the instruments to improve their capacities in governance. Join work has been carried out in the Western Balkans and in Eastern partnership countries.
